Houston-based artists and brothers Anthony and Francis Almendårez are collaborating to present a unique performance lecture exploring notions of archiving and distinctions between historical narratives and subjective memories. Incorporating video, photography, music, and readings, the premiere of Navigating The Archives Within will mix content from popular culture, art history, and Hollywood movies as well as their personal experiences in Central America in Houston. With their mixing and remixing of materials, the Almendårez brothers will take an autoethnographic journey of erasure, subordination, and subversion along the edges between official and marginalized histories, lived experience, and collective memory.
