Intersections Between Science, Art and Film

Co-presented with Green Bank
Video Salon with Mike Plante and Mark Elijah Rosenberg
Sunday, March 20, 1PM

We know more about outer space than the bottom of the sea. Anyone can see into outer space and everyone wants to be an astrologer. Space travel is the defining form of modern explorers, who must conquer not only the notion of space, but literal space and time. Maybe that's why so many films are obsessed with the sci-fi genre. In conjunction with the Orbit (Film) screenings on March 18th and 19th, Mike Plante and Mark Elijah Rosenberg will lead a conversation on the points where science, art and film converge and influence each other’s theory and practice.

This video salon is in correlation with the Orbit Film series.  The first screening ofOrbit Filmswill take place at Mandell Park on Friday, March 18th for FREE.  Then on Saturday, Plante and Rosenberg will host a second screening at the rooftop of Khon's Bar of other works from these amazing artists calledOrbit Filmmakers.

Mike Plante created the series in a similar fashion as his Lunchfilm project, where he bought a filmmaker lunch and they would make a short film in trade, with the cost of the lunch as the budget and a napkin contract. Plante was the Director of Programming for the CineVegas film festival and has worked at Sundance since 2001, including four festivals as a Short Film Programmer and two fests as a consultant for their New Frontier section. He also writes the film blog Cinemad (iblamesociety.com).

Mark Elijah Rosenberg is the Founder and Artistic Director of Rooftop Films, a non-profit organization whose mission is to engage and inspire diverse communities by showing movies in outdoor locations, producing new films, teaching filmmaking to young people, and renting low-cost equipment to artists and non-profits. As a curator and filmmaker, Mark's taste and work favor low-budget, personal cinema.
