For Father's Day, Aurora Picture Show hosts an evening of Family Fun Films from The Best of the Children's Film Festival Seattle 2009, along with an opening performance by Austin's Pop Stars: Dads Who Rock, on  Saturday, June 20 beginning at 7 p.m. at Discovery Green Park,  1500 McKinney.  The screening is curated by Liz Shepherd of the Children's Film Festival Seattle.
A snoozing princess, a gutsy guinea pig who learns to fly and a soccer player who loses his lucky sock - these are just a few of the memorable characters you'll meet in this big-screen presentation of "The Best of Children's Film Festival Seattle 2009."  The program features award-winning animation, live action and documentary films from seven countries that will make you laugh, tug at your heartstrings, and take you on a sweet ride through a wide world of moving images.
Titles include Crank Balls (Devin Bell, USA, 2007, 5 min.) The Narrator (Mark Ratzlaff, Canada, 2008, 4 min.) Sleeping Betty (Claude Cloutier, Canada, 9 min.) My Greatest Day Ever (Mark Bellamy, Australia, 2007, 8 min.) A Sunny Day (Gil Alkabetz, Germany, 2007, 6 min.)  Jiro and Miu (Jun Nito, Czech Republic, 2007, 8 min.) Sooner or Later (Jadwiga Kowalska, Switzerland, 2007, 5 min.) Ruby Who? (Hailey Bartholomew and Natala Stuetz, Australia, 5 min.) It's My Turn (Ismet Ergün, Turkey/Germany, 2007, 10 min.) Something to Hold Onto (SJ Chiro and Barbara O'Halloran, 10 min.)

The POP STARS: Dads Who Rock show is a songwriter’s circle where four singers, who are also fathers (a.k.a. Dads Who Rock), take turns singing their songs and backing each other up with extra instrumentation and vocal harmonies. The four artists are Michael Fracasso, Nathan Hamilton, Matt the Electrician and Beaver Nelson. While children dance around and sing, parents can hear intelligent and amazingly beautiful songs (no Wiggles here) from four of Austin’s best singer songwriters. In 2005, the Austin Chronicle voted the show "Best Event to Take the Kids and Get a Beer.”

So, pack a picnic and bring a blanket for another free evening of entertainment from Aurora Picture Show.  First 50 children to arrive get free Aurora Picture Show bubbles!

Special thanks to Discovery Green Conservancy and the Houston Arts Alliance for their support of this event.
