Join Aurora Picture Show for a visual arts performance by the eclectic duo of artist Andrew Lampert and musician Chris Corsano. On Monday, December 8 at 7PM come to Aurora Picture Show (2442 Bartlett Street) for an expanded cinema performance of "Don't Lose The Manual," a merrily convoluted evening of moving image and music performance involving broken gear and wildly unpredictable results.
Chris Corsano's galvanizing percussion kicks filmmaker Andrew Lampert into action mode as the improvisatory duo explore the limited options and perhaps harrowing consequences of playing with what you've been dealt. Less psychedelic and more psychological, this haphazard duo deconstructs expanded cinema performance with high tension and hilarity.
This performance occurs in tandem with Lampert's photo and video exhibition DON'T LOSE THE MANUAL on display at the Visual Arts Center at the University of Texas at Austin (September 19 through December 6, 2014). This performance is co-sponsored by the Visual Arts Center in the Department of Art and Art History at The University of Texas at Austin.
Andrew Lampert is an artist, curator, archivist, and educator based in New York City. His work has been presented at a wide array of international film festivals, institutions, galleries and art spaces including the Whitney Museum of American Art, The Toronto International Film Festival, The New York Film Festival, the Kitchen, the Gene Siskel Film Center, and the Guggenheim Museum among many other venues. Lampert is also Curator of Collections at Anthology Film Archives in Manhattan and his work is represented by Electronic Arts Intermix.
Chris Corsano is a drummer who has been at the vanguards of free improvisation, noise, and avant-rock music since the late 1990s. He has worked with a variety of musicians, including Björk, Paul Flaherty, Sir Richard Bishop among many others. As a solo performer, Corsano is as innovative as he is skillful: he uses household objects, scrap metal, small reed and string instruments, contact microphones, and a slew of extended techniques to expand his kit's sound far beyond conventional notions of what drums can and cannot do.
