JOHN DE MENIL
John de Menil, a grandson of founders John and Dominique de Menil, was born in 1986 in New York City. In May 2008, John graduated from the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University with a degree in film and television production and now works as a filmmaker in New York. He admires other filmmakers named John such as John Ford and Jean Pierre Melville.

MAX ERNST HANGING
Max Ernst Hanging documents, from installation to opening, the 1973 Max Ernst exhibition entitled “Inside the Sight,” organized by Dominique de Menil for the Rice Museum. Starting with an empty gallery and using a small-scale maquette to explain her concept for the exhibition, de Menil lays out the show's design with a crew of prepartors led by L. D. Dreyer.
Walls go up, sculptures are brought in, paintings are uncrated and hung. A few days before the show opens, Max Ernst arrives and, with de Menil, selects the graphic work that will be displayed. The film ends with a party, followed by the exhibition opening, with all of the Houston art world attending. Max Ernst Hanging depicts the various viewpoints from
which a work of art is comprehended: by the artist, by the patron/curator, by the press, and by the public.
