Aurora Picture Show presents a pop-up sculpture and video art installation by Houston-based artist VLM (Virginia L. Montgomery) investigating themes of materiality, metamorphosis, and "atomic consciousness." This surreal and sensorial new work blends together themes from ancient mythology, feminist psychoanalysis, and material physics to present a multi-layered dreamscape of ocular symbols, echoing sounds, and swirling logic. Join us for the opening and outdoor reception anytime between 7 and 10pm on Friday October 8. There will be an artist talk the following Saturday, October 16, at 1pm inside. The work will also be available to view by appointment Oct. 9-17 Contact Mary to arrange a visit.

Virginia Lee Montgomery (VLM) is a Houston-based multi-media artist working across video, performance, sound, and sculpture to explore atomic consciousness from a metaphysical feminist point of view. She received her BFA from the University of Texas at Austin in 2008 and MFA from Yale University in 2016. She was a 2018–19 Socrates Fellow at Socrates Park, NY, and a 2019 member of CRITGROUP at The Contemporary Austin. Her work has been exhibited at New Museum (NY), Times Square Arts (NY), Museum Folkwang (Germany), Wright Lab at Yale University (CT), Lawndale Art Center (Houston, TX), Midnight Moment, Times Square Arts (New York), False Flag (New York), Socrates Sculpture Park (New York), La Panacée-MoCo (Montpellier, France), and Hessel Museum of Art (New York). She has been awarded residencies at The Carving Studio & Sculpture Center, Wright Laboratory, Coast Time, The Shandaken Project at Storm King, and The Vermont Studio Center. VLM was the recipient of Yale University’s Susan H. Wedon Award (2016) and was a nominee in sculpture for the Toby Devan Lewis Fellowship (2016).
