Korea-born, New York-based artist Hey-Yeun Jang will present two evenings of film, video, and slide works, including an outdoor screening and slide performance as well as indoor installations live/leave and orchard.5. Using sequences and still images, Jang’s meditative work explores light, illusion, fleeting moments, and the meanings of words. The screening and slide performance will begin in our outdoor courtyard at 7pm, and the indoor installations can be seen before or after the program, anytime 6-9pm.

images never move. 

it's our optical illusion that makes them move; an illusion of continuity.

i pay attention to the individual frames to pursue something not there.

images are leftovers (remains) of the unseen, a disappearance.

i make moving images to perceive in between frames something not able to be captured and seen.

my work is an invitation to the void.

hey-yeun jang

Hey-Yeun Jang is a Korea-born, New York-based installation and film artist. Her works have been exhibited widely in museums internationally at Haus der Kulturen der Welt (Berlin, Germany), Queens Museum (New York, USA), Carrillo Gil Museum (Mexico City, Mexico), Centro Cultural Tijuana (Tijuana, Mexico), National Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea), Hangaram Art Museum (Seoul, Korea), Pacific Art Museum (Seoul, Korea), Museum 63 Artist Commune (Hong Kong, China), Bund 18 Creative Center (Shanghai, China), and Ludwig Foundation of Cuba (Havana, Cuba). Her films have been screened at the New York Film Festival, Rotterdam Film Festival, Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York, NY), Brooklyn Museum of Art (Brooklyn, NY), National Museum of Contemporary Art (Seoul, Korea), Anthology Film Archives (New York, NY), and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. She received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute and an MFA from Cranbrook Academy of Art.

All Aurora Picture Show staff members, visiting artists, volunteers, and representatives have been fully vaccinated. Although it cannot be required, Aurora prefers that all audience members be fully vaccinated. Masking is required inside our venue, but is optional while in our spacious, outdoor courtyard.

In the case of inclement weather, outdoor programs will be relocated to our indoor space (for the same date and time), which will have a reduced capacity and require masking. These decisions will be made the day of the programs, so please check our website and/or social media for updates.
