Join Aurora for a salon with documentary photographer Nina Berman, the artist behind the monograph "Purple Hearts – Back From Iraq," and the subject of a feature-length documentary of the same name. "Purple Hearts – Back From Iraq" is a collection of portraits and interviews with U.S. soldiers wounded in the war, and was published by Trolley in 2004 to wide acclaim. Nina will show a short video made from this series of photographs.
Nina Berman is a documentary photographer with a primary interest in the American political and social landscape. She is recognized for her work with wounded veterans, and her 2006 "Marine Wedding" portrait, which shows a disfigured marine with his young bride on their wedding day, is considered to be an iconic image of life during wartime. She has been the subject of solo and group exhibitions in New York, Chicago, Washington D.C., and Europe. She is on the faculty of the International Center of Photography in her hometown of New York City. Berman’s work will be in the "Unite and Untie" exhibition at the Houston Center for Photography from February 27-March 29th.
Houston Center for Photography will screen the documentary on Saturday, March 14th at 7:30PM. MORE INFO
