Location: Aurora Picture Show, 2442 Bartlett

*Ages 21 and up*

In honor of St. Valentine, participants in this hands-on multimedia workshop will marry text and film, writing and animating poems about love and life (or maybe shoehorns and refrigerators). With the help of Sara Cooper and Camilo Gonzalez we will draw from the poetic tradition of the mash-up, combining language borrowed from love songs, manuals, websites and other unexpected texts to create the kind of chemistry that only mismatched pairs yield. Just bring your emotions and we will take care of the rest, by the end of the class you will have a poetic film to share with your loved ones. Join us, find your muse, and write your heart out!  Wine and chocolates will be provided to get you in the mood.

Sara Cooper received her MFA in poetry from New Mexico State University. She has taught creative writing in both college and community contexts, most recently as a writer  in residence with Houston’s Writers in the Schools. Her work has appeared in The Mid-American Review, Puerto del Sol, and BorderSenses. She is currently a working on her Ph.D. at University of Houston.
