Dancing in the aisles is encouraged at this all ages soul celebration! Aurora Picture Show joins forces with Curator Peter Lucas to bring back the popular Soul Nite at the historic Eldorado Ballroom (2310 Elgin) on Saturday, February 2nd from 7-9:30PM (doors open at 6:30PM). Lucas will be in attendance as your host for the evening of rare performance footage from Soul music's greatest performers. The Eldorado Ballroom, a historic Houston music venue, sets the stage for a site-specific evening of electrifying all-star vintage performance footage, shown on the big screen and cranked up loud.
Peter Lucas' all-out 60s Soul party features classic and rare music performance footage on the big screen, food, drink, and dancing- all to benefit Aurora's youth programs. Bring your good vibes, best moves, and closest friends to Houston's historic Eldorado Ballroom for an all-new selection of 60s soul performances, including James Brown, Joe Tex, Lee Dorsey, Arthur Conley, Etta James, Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Stevie Wonder, Ray Charles, Ike & Tina Turner, and others
Peter Lucas is a Houston-based independent film/video curator, arts organizer, and music lover. He has created film series, live cinema performances, and exhibitions in association with the Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Aurora Picture Show, Northwest Film Forum, Seattle International Film Festival, Experience Music Project, Sound Unseen Music and Film Festival, Earshot Jazz Festival, and Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. He has also been a guest speaker at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Rice University, and Cornish College of The Arts.
In addition to regular admission, Aurora has added a special Soul Supporter VIP admission that include a Soul Nite poster and an exclusive Soul CD with a mix of goodies from the record collection of curator and presenter Peter Lucas. For $30, Soul Supporters will help support the youth programs of Aurora Picture Show including after-school programs and mobile media literacy initiatives with hospitals and community centers.
