Stop Motion Animation
A Popcorn Kids Workshop
With Filmmaker Kelly Sears
Saturday, April 2nd, 1PM and 2:30PM
Location: Aurora Video Library, 1524 Sul Ross

As part of the Menil Community Arts Festival, Aurora will host two workshops geared toward youth.  Stop motion is an animation technique where an object is moved incrementally, photographed and repeated many times to make it seem like the object is moving on its own accord.  Through the phenomenon of persistence of vision, the eye sees these incremental movements as a fluid motion.   In this workshop, we'll make stop motion animations from magazine cut-outs, drawings, construction paper forms and other common objects and materials.  Simply put, we'll make the ordinary bits from the world around us come to life.

Kelly Sears is an animator and filmmaker living in Houston, TX. She is a 2009-2011 fellow at the Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Her work has been shown at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, the Hammer Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Museum of Contemporary Art, San Diego, Anthology Film Archives, Sundance and in galleries and film festivals internationally.
