Join us for this FREE video salon where Amy Patton will discuss her Mitchell Center residency and the development of her new filmed theatre work "Oil" commissioned by the Mitchell Center with support from Blaffer Gallery. Hear about her process of casting the actors, collaborating with cast and crew on the script development, set-building and prop-making, research, and more. Patton will also present examples of her previous work along with excerpts from influential films.

Oil,” which will premiere at Blaffer Gallery in Fall 2010, is based on petroleum-influenced lifestyles and economic forecasting that dramatizes our society’s experiences with objects and commodities.  The landscape of Texas is a reoccurring theme in Patton's films, which disturb conventions of filmic storytelling, such as voice over narration, character acting, and suspenseful pacing. Patton’s recent experiments with performance and theater stem from an interest in language and oral storytelling that has characterized her work from the beginning.

The Oil cast and crew includes *Mia Pipkin, David Rainey, Katt Gilcrease, *Danielle Bunch, *Chris Viles, *Tracie Thomason, and is under the direction of Amy Patton, Justin Doran, and Lisa Rave.
*denotes UH School of Theatre & dance students

Born in Nacogdoches, Texas and raised in Austin, Amy Patton currently lives and works in Berlin.
