Nazli Dinçel: Tender Disruptions

Monday, November 4, 2024 (7:30pm)
NAZLI DINÇEL: TENDER DISRUPTIONS
The DeLuxe Theater, 3303 Lyons Ave, Houston, TX 77020
Free Admission

Aurora and Big Queer Picture Show are pleased to present 16mm experimental films by artist Nazli Dinçel exploring desire and dislocation. Born in Ankara, Turkey, Dinçel immigrated to the United States at age 17. As a trans non-binary filmmaker, they challenge normative representations of the body and provoke self-intervention. The films featured in Tender Disruptions were created by Dinçel’s use of hand-processing techniques like scratching, sewing, hammering, typing, or letter-punching. These meticulous acts re-evaluate what it means to create work on celluloid as an immigrant to the United States, and reference the artist’s experience of laborious working conditions in their birth country. The screening will be followed by a brief conversation between Aurora’s Salome Kokoladze and Big Queer Picture Show’s Michael Robinson.

NOTE: This program contains sexually explicit imagery and is intended for mature audiences only. Viewer discretion advised.
