Artist Kelly Gallagher in attendance
Award-winning experimental filmmaker and animator Kelly Gallagher will be at Aurora to present a selection of new and recent work and talk about her ideas and methods. Informed by her personal identity as a woman, an Irish-American, and an activist, Gallagher is interested telling stories rooted in acts of resistance and overlooked histories. The short, handmade animations, essay films, and experimental documentaries featured in this curated program explore nuanced personal and political relationships–between friends, lovers, comrades, and allies. This program includes her film From Ally To Accomplice based on the words of abolitionist John Brown and Marxist revolutionary and poet Marilyn Buck, her latest short We Had Each Other about the protest of thirty-two Irish Republican women POWs at Armagh Gaol jail in 1980, and others.
