Dreams Are Colder Than Death is a profound rumination on a single question: “What does it mean to be black in America today?” Director Arthur Jafa tears at the epistemological roots of this question with hypnotic imagery, lyrical grace and an epic narration by a host of artistic visionaries, thought leaders and uncommon folks, including Kara Walker, Hortense Spillers, Fred Moten, Kathleen Cleaver, Charles Burnett, Wangechi Mutu, Saidiya Hartman and Melvin Gibbs, among others. The film is an unprecedented 'stream of the black consciousness' and a strikingly original, kaleidoscopic look at black intellectual and emotional life.
In addition to the screening at Aurora with a post-film discussion moderated by Margarita de la Vega Hurtado, Arthur Jafa (Daughters of the Dust, Crooklyn) will also present an Artist Talk and screening of short works at Project Row Houses (see http://hcaf15.org for details).
