On Wednesday, May 2nd from 6-8PM in the Aurora Video Library (1524 Sul Ross), Aurora hosts a free video salon during happy hour for a talk with MFAH Curator Marian Luntz on the topic of Robert Frank. The video salon series with Aurora Picture Show, invites a visiting curator to lead a free educational talk on a specific topic of expertise in the media/film field.
Photographer and filmmaker Robert Frank (b. 1924 in Switzerland) is best known for his influential series of photographs, “The Americans,” and such films as “Pull My Daisy” (1959, co-directed by Alfred Leslie) and “Cocksucker Blues” (1972). The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston has a close relationship with this iconic artist: following the landmark exhibition New York to Nova Scotia in 1987, Frank selected the MFAH to serve as the archive and distributor of his films. MFAH curator of film and video Marian Luntz will discuss the trajectory of Frank’s moving image work, share anecdotes of working with Frank, and screen selections from his filmography that now totals over 30 titles.
Marian Luntz has worked in the film and media arts fields for more than three decades, and has expertise in the areas of exhibition, production, programming, research, marketing/promotion, fundraising, distribution, production, public speaking and advocacy. She has been Curator of Film and Video at The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston since 1990. In this capacity, she is responsible for programming over 200 films annually that are screened in the MFAH Brown Auditorium Theater. She also oversees the museum’s archive and circulating collection of film and video by the photographer and filmmaker, Robert Frank.
