A celebration of desire and pleasure, this playful stop-motion film uses fleshy plasticine to invite the viewer to look at the world from a plant’s perspective.   

Audience Choice Award:
A little corner in Brazil by Laís Pêgas, Ysrael Mendonça, Hamza, Vinícius Gomes, 2:31 (Niterói, Rio de Janeiro, Brasil)
In a corner of the city, shopkeepers Baiana and Clóvis have a day with few sales.

Aurora Picture Show’s annual Extremely Shorts Film Festival is an eclectic showcase of short films (3 minutes or shorter) of all kinds from around the world. This year’s guest juror is Luis Arnías, a filmmaker from Venezuela who currently lives and works in Boston, MA. He has selected 29 films from hundreds of submissions. The Extremely Shorts Film Festival 2023 program will include films from the United States (including seven Texas-made films), Canada, United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, Turkey, and Brazil. As always, audiences are encouraged to vote for their favorites, and cash prizes will be awarded for both Juror and Audience awards.

Extremely Shorts Film Festival 2023 will screen at Aurora Picture Show on Friday and Saturday, May 19-20 (7:30 PM), with guest juror Luis Arnías and some participating filmmakers in attendance. The following week, the program will be available to stream here on this webpage Friday- Sunday, May 26-28.

Juror:
Luis Arnías (b.1982) is a filmmaker from Venezuela who currently lives and works in Boston, MA. In 2009, he completed the diploma program at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and in 2020 he received his Masters in Film/Video from Milton Avery Graduate School at Bard College. He has screened at New York Film Festival, TIFF, Punto de Vista, Berlin Critics’ Week (Woche Der Kritik), and BlackStar Film Festival. He is currently a Fellow at The Film Study Center at Harvard University and was recipient of the Herb Alpert/MacDowell Fellowship 2022.
