Aurora Picture Show is honored to partner with the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts to bring back Austin-based multimedia artist Luke Savisky for Ht/X as the Opening Night performance for the 2015 CounterCurrent festival.  Ht/X is a live video spectacle performed on the underside of a downtown bridge which invites the audience to interact and participate through live video projection feeds onto the bridge archway.  Presented in partnership with the Buffalo Bayou Partnership, this magical evening will be hosted along the bayou at Allen's Landing (1001 Commerce Street) on Tuesday, April 14 from 8:30-10PM.

Artist Luke Savisky is known for transforming non-traditional spaces into immersive experiences that interact with and mesmerize audiences. Aurora Picture Show previously worked with Savisky during the 2010 Media Archeology Festival on the interactive installation E/x projecting onto four silos in Houston's East End and igniting the city skyline with a montage of audience members bodies. Savisky has created similar large-scale interactive installations in Austin, including Eye of Texas, a mind-bending interactive projection of viewers' eyes onto a historic 85ft tall Green Water Treatment Plant water tower. In addition to his installations, Savisky is also known for being an "invisible" third member to ambient music icons Stars of the Lid, as the designer behind their projections, designing captivating live shows in cathedrals, theaters and art spaces throughout Europe.

For CounterCurrent, Savisky will once again create meditative projections along the bayou, specifically on the arch of the Allen's Landing Bridge. Creating a video montage using audience members as subjects, Savisky will transform the natural and architectural setting of the Buffalo Bayou with light and sound. Savisky combines vintage film techniques with contemporary digital technology to explore abstract light-sculpting techniques. Set to the melodic tunes of Stars of the Lid against the backdrop of Houston's nightline, this is a one-of-a-kind cinematic experience for all to enjoy.

As the Opening Night of CounterCurrent, the evening of Ht/X will also include an opening night party nearby at OKRA Charity Saloon (924 Congress Avenue) from 9PM until close.  CounterCurrent is a festival of bold experimental art that occupies a range of unexpected sites in the city of Houston. Presented by the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, CounterCurrent includes audio and visual installation, live performance and participatory events by artists from around the world. Collaborations with dynamic organizations and artists in the Houston community are included as well as fresh new works by University of Houston faculty and students. Aurora Picture Show is pleased to be an original partner in this unique festival.

All CounterCurrent events, including Ht/X, are free-of-charge. There is limited seating so advance reservations encouraged. Reservations can be made online at countercurrentfestival.org. A small number of walk-up tickets will be available. Tickets will be available first-come, first-served at the venue 30 minutes before each show.

This project is made possible by Creative Capital. It is supported in part by an award from the National Endowment for the Arts: Art Works.
