Hey filmmakers, need money? Join Aurora Picture Show and Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) to welcome The Austin Film Society for a workshop on their film grants.  Hosted at Aurora, 2442 Bartlett, on Tuesday, April 21 from 6-8PM, the event is free but it might earn you some filmmaking funds.

Once a year, Austin Film Society awards grants to emerging film and video artists in the state of Texas. Since 1996, the Austin Film Society Grant has supported Texas filmmakers by giving out over $1.6 million in cash, goods and services to over 421 projects. Formerly known as the Texas Filmmakers' Production Fund, or TFPF, awards are provided to artists whose work shows promise, skill, and creativity. In addition to grants for production, post-production and distribution, we provide cash stipends to Texas filmmakers traveling to prestigious film festivals through its AFS Travel Grant program. Grant recipients have shown their films at renowned festivals like Sundance, Berlin, Cannes, Toronto, Tribeca, Venice, Rotterdam and SXSW and have been nominated for Gotham Awards, won Independent Spirit Awards and Student Academy Awards. Several have been released theatrically or in the cable and home video markets.

The Austin Film Society Grant deadline for the 2015 cycle is June 2nd and resident filmmakers (resided in Texas since at least June 1st, 2014) are eligible to apply for up to $15,000 in funding for their project. In August, an independent panel of esteemed professionals from the national film community convene in Austin at The Austin Film Society to review applications and administer awards. Award announcements are announced at the conclusion of the panel session and grant disbursements are made in the fall.

Aurora Picture Show is pleased to partner with Southwest Alternate Media Project (SWAMP) to bring The Austin Film Society to Houston as they work to support Texas filmmakers making their mark in the world. Holly Herrick of Austin Film Society will join us at Aurora Picture Show to review the application guidelines and procedures and answer questions about applying for film production funds from AFS. At these free workshops, AFS will take you through the application process step-by-step. In addition to the one hosted at Aurora Picture Show, additional workshops include an Austin-based workshop on Monday, May 11th, 6:30-8:30PM at the AFS Screening Room, 1901 E. 51st Street.
