Aurora Education Highlights

AURORA EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS
Saturday, March 10 (11AM)

Free Admission
Co-presented by Aurora Picture Show
and The Periwinkle Foundation

Join us in celebrating the creativity of Houston’s kids! Aurora’s Camilo Gonzalez will present this showcase including imaginative short films created by kids ages 5-13 over the past year through Aurora’s media arts education activities at Houston-area schools, hospitals, and community centers. Some of the young filmmakers, Aurora’s artist-teachers, and community partners will be in attendance.

The program features the premiere of The Inventions Project, a year-long stop-motion film project produced by Aurora and The Periwinkle Foundation as part of the Arts in Medicine Program at Texas Children’s Cancer Center and Hematology Service at Texas Children’s Hospital. Young patients imagined "inventions" that would make the world a better place and created short animated vignettes about them. This film assembles all of the participants’ work.

We will also be screening Kong’s Wild Life, a film created with the Looscan 4th and 5th graders during Aurora's Summer 2017 residency at Wesley Community Center, as well as work made in collaboration with Young Audiences of Houston, including projects with The Salvation Army: Young Adult Resource Center and the Harris County Juvenile Detention Centers. The program will conclude with a selection of films created in Aurora’s Summer Filmmaking Camps.
