Location: Aurora Picture Show Backyard, 1524 Sul Ross
FREE Admission

Join Shrimp Boat Projects, poet Martha Serpas, and filmmakers Elizabeth Coffman and Ted Hardin for a free outdoor screening of Veins in the Gulf, a documentary that traces the history of rapidly disappearing bayous, the environmental crisis of southern Louisiana, and the international impact of Cajun culture. Through interviews with fishermen, engineers, poets, and scientists, the documentary bears witness as Louisiana residents confront the mortality of their culture and a community tries to solve its environmental crises. Enjoy fresh Gulf Coast shrimp and this exploration of southern culture and discover where great American literature, music, seafood and oil have come from for the past century.

Presented in collaboration with the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts, Aurora Picture Show hosts this free screening in the backyard of Aurora Picture Show (1524 Sul Ross Street, Houston, TX 77002) on Wednesday, April 27 at 7:30PM. Filmmakers Elizabeth Coffman and Ted Hardin will host a Q&A following the film, and the audience will be treated to fresh Gulf Coast shrimp courtesy of the Shrimp Boat Projects and samples from Saint Arnold Brewing Company. Attendees are encouraged to bring blankets or lawn chairs for this free night of films. Free parking is available in the parking lot of the Menil Collection located on the corner of Alabama and Mulberry, as well as street parking throughout the neighborhood.

This screening is part of the Shrimp Boat Projects, a creative research project that explores the regional culture of the Houston area.  The primary site of the investigation is a working shrimp boat on Galveston Bay, which serves as a catalyst for labor, discussion and artistic production.  Shrimp Boat Projects is co-created by Eric Leshinsky and Zach Moser, Artists in Residence at the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts.
