Join Houston-based interdisciplinary artist Lisa E. Harris in conversation about her work with Aurora Picture Show curator Mary Magsamen as part of Texas Talks Art, an ongoing weekly series of free, virtual, lunchtime talks. 30-minute talk, followed by Q&A.

LISA E. HARRIS is an interdisciplinary artist and educator from Houston Texas whose work involves experimental music composition, vocal performance, sound art, film, and installation. Harris’ work resists genre classification as she focuses on the energetic relationships between body, land, spirit, and place. She recently completed “Cry of the Third Eye,” a three-act opera film that documents the personal effects of gentrification on her neighborhood of Third Ward over the course of ten years. She can be heard on the recent music release “EarthSeed,” her collaboration with Nicole Mitchell based on the writings of Octavia Butler. More information at: www.lisaeharris.com

MARY MAGSAMEN is Curator of Aurora Picture Show, a Houston-based non-profit media arts organization dedicated to expanding the cinematic experience and promoting the understanding and appreciation of moving image art. Aurora presents year-round artistic programming, including screenings, film festivals, live cinema events, installations, artist talks, and more. Magsamen is also a video and multimedia artist, working with her husband as Hillerbrand+Magsamen and exhibiting internationally.

TEXAS TALKS ART is a multi-institutional initiative intended to both introduce the work of Texas artists to a wider audience and to foster collaboration between state-wide non-profit arts organizations. The Texas Talks Art weekly series of free, virtual lunchtime talks (Tuesdays at noon) will feature 50 artists and collectives in conversation with 50 curators, and will traverse a broad range of concerns and questions.
