Tabletop Green Screen Workshop for Youth

  • IKEA Houston 7810 Katy Freeway Houston, TX, 77024 United States (map)

In honor of Saint Patricks' Day, Aurora Picture Show hosts a green screen workshop for youth that will utilize basic chroma-key compositing to create unique tabletop short films.

Aurora’s green screen workshop teaches children a form of filmmaking in which small staged sets and objects are filmed and manipulated in front of a green screen that can make them appear in any imaginable background. Youth will use IKEA puppets and pre-made text bubbles to create short films that will help them understand the structure of staging in filmmaking. Aurora Picture Show volunteers will help participants create their story and local filmmakers will help bring them to life.

Commonly used in weather forecast broadcasts, chroma key compositing (or chroma keying) is a technique for compositing (layering) two images together. A color range in the top layer is made transparent, revealing another image behind.
