Slant 7: Bold Asian American Images

Saturday, May 19 at 8 p.m. & Sunday, May 20 at 3 p.m.

Melissa Hung returns to Aurora for Slant 7, culling through the works
of emerging filmmakers to showcase the best in Asian American cinema.
Since its start in 2000, Slant has screened an eclectic mix of films
that explore a wide range of topics and genres. But you can always
count on a few mainstays at Slant: the smashing of stereotypes,
off-beat comedies, and family stories. Some films explore culture and
identity, but many more revolve around universal themes like love,
loss, the human condition, and of course, spectacular gun battles.
Please note there is a different program each day.

Melissa Hung is the founding editor of Hyphen, a magazine about Asian
American culture. She is a frequent speaker on the topic of Asian
American media and independent media. She lives in Oakland, California
and works for the San Francisco WritersCorps, a creative writing
program for urban youth. Among the things she loves are poems (some of
them), label makers, and tacos.
