Presented on 35mm, this unique science fiction film about a colony of cosmically altered ants is the one and only feature-length film directed by acclaimed graphic designer and title sequence master Saul Bass. This special screening of the rarely screened Phase IV includes Bass's original “lost” ending–an epic montage that was deemed by the studio as too weird and psychedelic for release, and went unseen for nearly 40 years.

BYDESIGN Houston explores intersections of graphic arts and moving image with special programs showcasing the work of pioneering filmmaker Oskar Fischinger, legendary title designer and director Saul Bass, and contemporary design collective MK12. Join us in celebrating multidisciplinary works that have transformed our visual culture through design in motion.  All programs will be at Aurora Picture Show except for the first night which will be at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Curator Peter Lucas has organized exhibitions, film screening series, and events in association with the Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Contemporary Arts Museum Houston, Menil Collection, Aurora Picture Show, Northwest Film Forum, Seattle International Film Festival, Experience Music Project, and a variety of other galleries and venues. He was named Best Curator by the Houston Press in both 2012 and 2013. Lucas is also an active artist and arts writer.

This program is sponsored by Scott and Judy Nyquist.
