Playing with Parody
FLICKERLOUNGE
A Season-Long Cinematic Experience Curated by Aurora Picture Show
January 14-February 26
Location: Diverseworks, 1117 East Freeway
FREE
The DiverseWorks main gallery exhibition, Parody of Light by Patricia Hernandez appropriates, imitates and critiques the artistic creations and professional practices of Thomas Kinkade. Aurora expands this idea with videos that parody art, media and religion through ironic viewpoints about television personalities and notions of success. The films include Embrace of the Irrational by Jonn Herschend, Frog Jesus by Ben Peters and The Art of Painting #3 by Lily Sparks.
DiverseWorks is a non-profit art center dedicated to presenting new visual, performing, and literary art. DiverseWorks is a place where the process of creating art is valued and where artists can test new ideas in the public arena. By encouraging the investigation of current artistic, cultural and social issues, DiverseWorks builds, educates, and sustains audiences for contemporary art.
