Open Source Image Processing Workshop
Co-presented with Culture Pilot
Wednesday, September 25, 6-9PM
Location: Aurora Picture Show, 2442 Bartlett
Ages 17 and up
Have you ever wondered how to get into data visualization, but haven't had a lot of experience with programming? Have you ever wished your graphic designs could move and react? Have you ever wanted to use code to generate visuals?
Join us for a workshop for all skill levels on the open source creative visualization tool "Processing." In this workshop, led by Javier Fadul, Experience Coordinator at Culture Pilot, and Travis McCarra, Art Director at Buffalo Design Co., they will guide you through understanding the possibilities that are opened up by this tool. The principles you will learn from this workshop can be used in filmmaking, graphic design, visual effects, and even robotics. For this workshop all you need is a laptop and Aurora’s internet connection. Processing is a cross platform framework that you will install to set-up a collection of sketches. By the end of the workshop you will have a good understanding of the principals behind programming visuals and a set of sketches to get started creating your own generative visual systems.
This workshop will also showcase some of the work that is being created by combining simple algorithms with motion and interactive graphics in major motion pictures, in data visualizations, and reactive systems. The team leading the workshop has created visualizations and experiences for TEDxHouston.com and Visualized.com, as well as created responsive architecture systems for the city of Houston, and algorithmic assisted designs for civic art and architecture.
