NO MATTER WHAT SIGN YOU ARE
Wednesday, June 5 (7:30PM)
Co-presented by Aurora Picture Show and the Station Museum of Contemporary Art
Free Admission
In conjunction with the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Rebellion, Aurora Picture Show and The Station Museum of Contemporary Art co-present this special screening of rarely-seen documentary and experimental short films reflecting Queer expressions and the struggle for LGBTQ rights since that catalytic protest. Referencing The Supremes' song that was a jukebox favorite at the Stonewall Inn at the time of the infamous police raid–No Matter What Sign You Are includes films by Jack Smith, Nikolai Ursin, Barbara Hammer, Marguerite Paris, and Jim Hubbard. The program also features the new fiction film Happy Birthday, Marsha! imagining trans activist and artist Marsha P. Johnson in the hours leading up to the Stonewall riots and director Travis Johns’ short documentary The Trouble With Ray about the Houston activist and provocateur Ray Hill who passed away in November.
NOTE: Admission is free, but space is limited and seating for this event is first come, first served, so we recommend arriving early. Doors open at 7:00PM.
Enjoy our mix of songs that were among the most popular in the Stonewall’s jukebox the week of the infamous June 1969 police raid that sparked days of resistance and a half century of LGBTQ pride and protest:
