Follow the Manhattan-based Beavan family as they abandon their high consumption 5th Avenue lifestyle and try to live a year while making no net environmental impact. That means eating vegetarian, buying only local food, turning off the refrigerator, no elevators, no television, no cars, buses, or airplanes, no toxic cleaning products, no electricity and no garbage. What does this mean for the retail-loving, coffee-guzzling family and what will the impact be on their personal lives? Laura Gabbert and Justin Schein's film provides an intriguing inside look into the experiment that became a national fascination and media sensation, while examining the familial strains and strengthened bonds that result in the Beavan’s struggle with their radical lifestyle change.
Whole Foods Market presents a special month-long series of film screenings titled, “Retake Our Plates,” in partnership with several Houston non-profits including Aurora Picture Show. Each Thursday during the month of April, Whole Foods Market will screen a film about sustainability and thoughtful eating in honor of Earth Month. Each screening will benefit a different non-profit organization who is committed to a more sustainable way of life. For more information on the other “Retake Our Plates” screenings and launch party April 1, visit www.wholefoodsmarket.com
Special Thanks to Whole Foods Market Houston for their support of Aurora Picture Show!
