Aurora Picture Show and the Menil Collection co-present a special screening of French-American artist Niki de Saint Phalle’s rarely screened 1976 feature film, Un rêve plus long que la nuit (A Dream Longer Than The Night). An often-overlooked work in the prolific, multidisciplinary artist’s career, Un rêve is a phantasmagoric feminist fairy tale in which a young girl comes face to face with a friendly dragon, a beautiful bird-man, and a witch who grants her wish to become a grown-up. The precocious Camélia searches for the meaning of life, death, and love in increasingly strange scenarios–including an absurd factory, a brothel where Saint Phalle plays the role of madam, and a battlefield with phallus cannons. Guest Arielle de Saint Phalle, the artist’s niece, will be in attendance to introduce the film and answer questions afterwards. In French with English subtitles. NOTE: Mature content.
