The current state of computing puts filmmaking capabilities on the average office-worker’s desktop, and provides countless animators with the means to exhibit their work. A few of these animations are spoofs – created by garden-variety desk jockeys emailing the modern equivalent of “Thank God it’s Friday” mini-cine through corporate networks - others works show how artists use flash, java, and other cheap, desktop friendly tools for more meaningful works. Artist and noodlers alike use American culture (or lack thereof) as a palette, sampling cultural detritus from the web, TV, and DVDs. Predictable effect reveal a shared zeitgeist and original works show how complex ideas and compelling images can be created with simple software.
