Friday, January 6, 6-8PM
Location: Aurora Office and Library, 1524 Sul Ross
Free Admission for Current and Future Members
Aurora encourages you to kick off 2012 in cinema style by becoming a card-carrying member of Aurora Picture Show. On Friday, January 6 from 6-8PM at the Aurora Video Library (1524 Sul Ross), Aurora will host a community potluck and backyard keg party to bring all our members together. The evening will include an informal screening of works from our Mobile Media Literacy initiatives in the community.
By becoming a member of Aurora Picture Show, those membership dollars support year-round free outdoor screenings and youth education programs hosted by Aurora. Membership also gives you free admission to all Aurora regular programs and discounted admission to special events, not to mention the T-shirts, pint glasses, DVDs and invitations to members-only gatherings. Upcoming members-only events include Drinks with Davy Rothbart of FOUND Magazine and a pre-screening reception for Cinematic Graphite, a short film compilation inspired by Richard Serra that will take place at The Menil Collection. Member Rush is free to all current and future members.
An informal screening in the backyard will feature a selection of short films created as part of our Popcorn Kids youth education initiative entitled Mobile Media Literacy Outreach. These Popcorn Kids programs hit the road and visit hospitals, non-profit groups and local schools to bring media literacy and filmmaking to the community. Some of our partners include Texas Children's Hospital, Project Row Houses, Writers in the School and many more.
In addition to brew samples from Saint Arnold Brewery, Aurora will also host a potluck inviting volunteers to bring their favorite dish to share with friends, old and new. So rush on over to Aurora to “join” in the fun - and feel free to bring a dish to share!
