Media Archeology: Live & Televised

Friday, April 18th, 8PM
Brent Green with Howe Gelb & Jeremy Gara
Orange Show for Visionary Art, 2402 Munger Street
(Rain Location: Aurora Picture Show)

Brent Green will perform a live narration to his stop animation films, while his three-piece orchestra performs an improvised soundtrack. "The animations of self-taught filmmaker Brent Green are marked by morbid topics and quivering imagery paired with discordant indie-rock sound tracks. They've gained attention int he art and film worlds for the good reason that they are easy to like. With an impressive cinematic sense, an endearing handmade esthetic defined by exposed Scotch tape, and a vision that is equal parts Dr. Suess and Tim Burton, they show considerable promise for an artist only 27." -- Art in America

Media Archeology is Aurora Picture Show's annual multimedia festival that features artists who incorporate audio/visual technology with live performance. Each year, Media Archeology focuses on a different sub-genre of technology-based performance, and this year the theme is Live & Televised--live actors who perform with pre-recorded video and audio. The pre-recorded elements create a mise-en-scene of projected sets, props, and environments and provide additional pre-recorded actors -- sometimes creating a stage, soundtrack or entire cast.

Curated by Andrea Grover and Nick Hallett, Media Archeology is a collaboration between Mitchell Center for the Arts at University of Houston, KTRU-FM, Orange Show Center for Visionary Art, and Diverseworks.

Festival Schedule:

Thursday, April 17, 8pm: Negativland at Rice University, Herring Hall
Friday, April 18, 8pm: Filmmaker Brent Green with musicians Jeremy Gara (Arcade Fire) and Howe Gelb (Giant Sand) at Orange Show
Saturday, April 19, 8pm: Shana Moulton and Tara Mateik at DiverseWorks

Media Archeology is sponsored in part by The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at University of Houston, Microcinema International, VOICE Restaurant, and Southwest Airlines.

Aurora would also like to thank Art Lies Magazine , Saint Arnold Brewery, Treebeards Restaurant and Modern Bed and Breakfast for their support of the festival as well.
