Do candy hearts, chocolate boxes, stuffed animals and roadside roses fill your heart with dread? Declare February 14th free of forced romanticism and join us for a special anti-Valentine’s themed screening composed of short films about the battle scars of relationships. For all those people without Valentine's plans and their sympathetic malcontents, or even for those couples that reject manipulated corporate holidays, this screening is for you.
Short films for this program include:
The Key by Paul Street - A love story set in a timeless society where water is a premium and people grow their own hydroponic food.
Ah, L'Amour by Don Herzfeldt - This gut-busting yet painfully honest animation showcases the horrific encounters of a genuine man’s quest to find love. His honest attempts to make friendly conversation with each encounter are ill-received, each woman bringing the attempt to a different brutally violent end.
Men Seeking Women by Penny Lane - A random survey of personal ads one night on Craigslist opens up performative possibilities for a corporate tool.
25 Random Things by Chris J. Russo - After getting the shaft in an unbelievable break up, a lesbian reveals her enlightened, yet hysterical road to recovery.
30-Love by Allison Beda - 30-Love is a dance film poem that chronicles a long distance relationship and its demise. A simple voice-over narration of the emotional arc of one of the lovers is combined with the film of a tennis match ‘dance’ and a musical score, which includes manipulated and recomposed diegetic sounds of the tennis game.
Oh, Love by Shaina Feinberg - A series of conversations about the meaning of love from multiple points of view.
Deere John by Mitchell Rose - Indeed there is a relationship between man and machine and that relationship can often have tragic consequences or at the very least leave one unfulfilled. It is the story of the young man and his love affair with a John Deere Tractor.
I Still Love Jessica by Arthur Jones - This video was made to promote the anthology "Things I Learned from the Women Who've Dumped Me," edited by Ben Karlin (exDailyShow producer/writer). The audio is from a phone conversation between writer Rodney Rothman and his teenage flame, Jessica.
Happy Hour by Angela Gomes - Allison thinks bourbon, ice cream and solitude will help her get over her boyfriend's infidelity, but her friends think getting a little nookie is what she needs so they bring by a willing volunteer to help her move on.
Three Years by Sarah Bircher - Three years is a 60-second, 100-cut video that invokes the same sense of urgency, fear, and anxiety that are felt during a break-up. The video focuses on both the physical and emotional remnants of a failed relationship.

The Party Game - Special presentation from our friends, Cinema Bomar! A 16mm 1982 date-rape training film. Like many educational films of the early 80's, The Party Game gives us plenty of information about getting into trouble, but not a word on how to get out of it.
Block 7 is a one-stop mecca for great wine, phenomenal food, and craft beers at affordable prices. A communal gathering spot, it is the perfect location for an Aurora event. Sample some of their very un-Valentine treats such as truffle oil popcorn and sweets, as well as drink specials including $5 glasses of wine. Following the screening, there will be a prix fixe market menu dinner option in the restaurant. Plus, stick around for live music by local soul diva Andrea Chase and her band from 7-9pm.
