Drawing on her 10 years of experience with three films, Marcy Garriott joins us for a dialogue on the challenges and rewards of independent documentary filmmaking. This interactive session will cover topics such as selection of subject matter, production tips, collaboration & creativity, finding the story structure, and festivals & marketing.
Marcy Garriott is an independent documentary filmmaker based in Austin, Texas. She first produced and directed SPLIT DECISION, which was broadcast on public television in 2001 and 2007, and is distributed by First Run Features. SPLIT DECISION tells the story of world championship boxer Jesus Chavez, deported at the peak of his career due to tightened immigration policies. Marcy next produced and directed INSIDE THE CIRCLE, winner of four festival awards, including an Audience Award at its world premiere at SXSW 2007. Marcy served on the Austin Film Society Board of Directors for six years, serving two years as President of the Board. She is currently on the Board of Directors of KLRU and on the Advisory Board of Cine Las Americas.
