Illusionary Worlds
A Video Salon
With Animator Jeanne Stern
Sunday, October 16, 1PM
Aurora Video Library, 1524 Sul Ross
Free Admission

Aurora Picture Show hosts a free educational video salon with a visiting curator or artist at the Aurora Video Library each quarter.   Aurora is proud to offer these salons as way to generate meaningful discussions and encourage media literacy.

This quarter, Aurora welcomes Austin-based animator Jeanne Stern. Jeanne creates bizarre cinematic worlds using a hybrid of animation and puppetry.  She will discuss creating space through stereoscopy and other illusions, as well as the effect of leaving openings in work for viewer participation. The audience will also be asked to consider ways that moving image artists can use, or even subvert, new technological trends.

The work of Jeanne Stern has screened internationally at venues including the Smithsonian, Heather Henson's "Handmade Puppet Dreams," South by Southwest, PBS, Berlin’s Werk-Raum Gallery, the Toronto Film Festival, Savannah College of Art and Design, Athens Video Art Festival, Moving Things Festival in Capetown South Africa, and UMIMA World Puppet Day in New Delhi India. She animated Ruth Fertig’s documentary “Yizkor,” which won the Student Academy Award Gold Prize for Documentary, and the CINE Gold Eagle Prize in 2010.  Jeanne has her MFA in Film from the University of Texas at Austin, and her BA in Studio Art and Computer Science from Connecticut College. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Jeanne currently lives in Austin, Texas. She also teaches courses in animation at the Austin School of Film.
