Got films? Bring in your cinematic artifacts for a one-of-a-kind opportunity to digitize and share your personal films at Aurora Picture Show (2442 Bartlett Street) from June 18-20.  From 8mm, Super8, 16mm home movie, now is your chance to preserve and share grandma's wedding film or your childhood Spielberg imitations thanks to the transfer services of A/V Geeks.  And on Saturday, June 20th at 7PM, A/V Geeks will share a selection of the films digitized for Houston in a public screening for all. Because from the dated outfits to amateur cinema antics, who doesn't love the window into the past that is the home movie?

Home Movie Day is an international celebration of amateur films, designed to both provide a showcase for home movies, student films, and other forms of amateur media, and to provide a gathering to discuss best practices for film and digital media preservation. Look through your attics, dig through your closets, call up Grandma, and search out your family's home movies and bring an 8mm, Super8, 16mm film (sorry, no video or slides) to see it projected. Or just show up and watch the films of others. It's not just historically significant - it's fun!

Bring your own films and A/V Geeks will transfer film to digital formats on-site for a very low fee of $25 for Aurora Picture Show members or $35 for non-members for up to four small reels or about 15 minutes of film. Skip Elsheimer will be available throughout the three days (Thursday, Friday & Saturday, June 18, 19 & 20, 11:00AM - 2:00PM) for anyone who would like advice on how to preserve their own films. You may also drop off your films ahead of time from Monday, June 15th through Wednesday, June 17th between 11am and 4pm and the A/V Geeks will digitize them when they land in Houston.

Then on Saturday, June 20 at 7PM, join Aurora and A/V Geeks for the final night of the program with "Home Movie Day Screening and Bingo with A/V Geeks" where a selection of the films that the A/V Geeks digitized for Houstonians during Home Movie Day will be screened. Additionally, audiences can play Bingo and win prizes as they find birthday cakes or cowboy hats in the home movies.

A/V Geeks has a collection of over 22,000 films which they share with audiences through ephemeral screenings in unique settings across the nation. For more than a decade, these geeks have been rescuing old 16mm school films from dumpsters and obscurity. In addition to his own collection, A/V Geeks founder, Skip Elsheimer, also offers film & video transfer services and has worked with clients such as NASA and the State Archives of North Carolina, as well as amateur family filmmakers from around the world.
