Flaherty Film Seminar (Houston)
Moderated and Curated by Margarita de la Vega Hurtado and the Flaherty Film Seminar
Saturday, March 19, 10AM-5PM
Aurora Members and Rice University Students $20, Non-Members $30
Named after Robert Flaherty (Nanook of the North, Man of Aran, Louisiana Story) who is considered by many to be the father of documentary film, The Seminar began in 1955 when Flaherty’s widow, Frances, convened a group of filmmakers, critics, curators, musicians, and other film enthusiasts at the Flaherty farm in Vermont.
Aurora, along with Margarita de la Vega Hurtado, Houston resident and former Executive Director of the Flaherty Film Seminar, will bring a one-day version of this unique program to Houston. Filmmakers and film lovers are encouraged to join us for a selection of screenings of films from previous Flaherty seminars followed by small group discussions about the films.
The finale of the day will be the free screening of MOANA (with sound) by Robert Flaherty at Rice Media Center.
Special thanks to the Flaherty Film Seminar.
