In conjunction with The Menil Collection’s exhibition Andy Warhol:
Three Houston Women (March 16 to July 8, 2007), The Menil Collection
and Aurora Picture Show present two rare films of artist Andy Warhol at
work. Warhol relied on silkscreening—a printmaking technique that
creates a sharp-edged image by using a stencil—to create iconic images
like his Campbell Soup Cans, and the portraits in this exhibition.
Notoriously private about revealing his painting techniques, both of
the videos show Warhol adding color and texture in specific areas on
the canvases before silkscreening the final images. The program
features Andy Warhol’s Factory Diaries; Andy Warhol Paints Mao,
December 7, 1972 and Andy Warhol Mops Hammer & Sickle, 1977.
