Boob Tube Flash Screening

  • The Caroline Collective 4820 Caroline Street Houston, TX, 77004 United States (map)

Boobies, titties, ta-tas, hooters, gazungas, chi-chis, watermelons, bee stings; no matter how you say it, breasts come in many forms that easily stir up conversation. In honor of breast cancer awareness month, Aurora is going to flash you!  Arrive early for special activities in honor of breasts, followed by a screening of short films titled Boob Tube at 7PM that will cover the gamut of candid emotions and feelings, some funny and some serious, that are central to any conversation about this sensitive and sometimes controversial body part. Short film selections include films about breast cancer, breast feeding, breast size, and general breast celebrations.  Viewer discretion for this screening and event is advised.

Film titles include "Unexpected Experience of Two Girl Hitchhikers (Unknown found footage)," 1950; "Bouncing In The Corner #36DDD" by Dara Greenwald,1999 (a feminist take on the work of Bruce Nauman); "Boobie Girl" by Brooke Keesling, 2001 (an animated short about a girl who longs for larger breasts); " The Audrey Samsara" by Amy Jenkins, 2004 (a look at the cycle of breastfeeding); "Dirty Girl" by Jennifer Clary, 2007 (a female perspective on cancer surgery); and "Open Your Eyes" by Susan Cohen, 2008 (a short film about a woman dealing with breast cancer) and "I Like My Boobies" by Tomboy TV among others.

At 5:30PM, Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School invites you to titillate your inner artist and create life drawings of sultry knocker-inspired models.  Even if you aren't comfortable with your sketching skills, there will be crayons and kinky coloring books.  Pink Ribbons Project will also be on hand raising money to support their mission with a Pink Vodka Lemonade stand courtesy of Stockholm Krystal Vodka and a bake sale.  Using the arts, Pink Ribbons Project saves lives and improves the quality of life for those touched by breast cancer.

Though this is a free community event, we encourage fans to bring some bucks to contribute to Aurora Picture Show, Pink Ribbons Project and the lovely models of Dr. Sketchy.

ABOUT DR. SKETCHY
Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is what happens when Cabaret meets art school.  It is everything you wish all of your old boring art classes could have been. That is, chilled out afternoons full of beautiful people, killer beats, booze and ridiculous contests / draw-offs. All that is expected of you is to sketch as you have never sketched before. And maybe have a couple of drinks too.

ABOUT PINK RIBBONS PROJECT
Pink Ribbons Project was founded by a group of dancers who were individually touched by breast cancer. Through that experience and perspective we have to believe that dance and the other arts:

  • can educate and inform the mind in ways that traditional methods cannot

  • can move people to action

  • can inspire and lift the spirits of those with breast cancer

  • can help heal the bodies of those fighting breast cancer
