Ten years ago, when the term “New Argentine Cinema” was coined, noone expected what was generally regarded as a passing moment to have continued for so many years. Not only does Argentina continue to produce exciting new talent, but so too have other Latin American countries built on this momentum. In A Lasting Wave, Monika Wagenberg will talk about the emergence of New Argentine Cinema, and its impact, particularly in relation to the current revitalization of the Colombian film scene.
Monika Wagenberg received her BA in Comparative Literature and Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and her Cinema Studies Masters Degree from New York University. After working as a Distribution Associate at New Yorker Films, she co-founded Cinema Tropical, a non-profit organization that promotes, programs and distributes Latin American Cinema in the United States. She has worked in numerous film festivals including The New York Film Festival, The Museum of Modern Art and Film Society of Lincoln Center’s New Directors/New Films and the New York International Latino Film Festival. Currently, Wagenberg is the Festival Director of the Cartagena International Film Festival and of Latin Wave, the annual Latin American Film Festival at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston.
