35mm - Flickerlounge: A Season-long Cinematic Experience

DiverseWorks and Aurora Picture Show are pleased to partner on Flickerlounge, a season-long cinematic experience in the newly refurbished Project Gallery at Diverseworks. In coordination with the visual arts exhibitions, Aurora will present an eclectic lineup of rotating full-length films, shorts and video presentations to accompany the Main Gallery. In coordination with the main exhibit, The New Normal, Aurora presents 35mm.

35mm is a collection of five works that use celluloid as the major structural component. This series of shorts reflect the assimilation of the motion picture into non-traditional digital filmmaking.  35mm presents itself as a body of work exploring celluloid’s place in the future of avant-garde cinema. The hybrid may represent the best of both mediums with the acquisition of the image on film and the advantage of digital post-production and distribution. At the very least it may be the final supernova before the analog world of gears and sprockets goes silent and dark.

Robert Flowers has been making films and videos since 1985 and received an MFA in film from the San Francisco Art Institute. Robert’s work has been shown in numerous Film/Video Festivals as well as the Anthology Film Archive, Robert Beck Memorial Cinema and the Millennium in New York. Robert is a PhD candidate at the University of Texas at Dallas' Arts and Technology Program.
