Dear Sacred Water
Saúl Hernández-Vargas
Dear Sacred Water / Agüita Santa is a site-specific video and sound intervention under a train bridge on Houston’s Buffalo Bayou. Artist Saúl Hernández-Vargas incorporates the research of Mexican journalist and writer Daniela Rea, and reflects on the journey of water as it flows from the bayou into the Gulf of Mexico. In this piece, water is both a natural element at the center of many contemporary struggles and a silent witness to past and present tensions, connecting people and territories.
Saúl Hernández-Vargas is a Houston-based visual artist and writer whose work is concerned with material performativity, the framing of historical objects, and fiction. A recipient of the Artadia Award and an alum of the Core Program at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, his first solo museum exhibition opened at the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo y de las Culturas de Oaxaca last October.

Tejidos y Textiles
Diana-Sofia Estrada
Tejidos y Textiles explores the relationships between pattern, camouflage and movement. Artist Diana-Sofia Estrada brings to life nocturnal animals from childhood memories and dreams and places them among graphic patterns drawn from the Guatemalan fabrics that once filled her family home. In this installation, framed by the structural supports of the Jensen Street bridge, animated creatures emerge in colorful projections on layered surfaces to explore their home, Buffalo Bayou.
Diana-Sofia Estrada is a Guatemalan American visual artist and educator born in Houston. Her paintings, animations, installations, and social practice works question our immediate visual culture. She has exhibited work nationally and internationally, and is a current artist in residence at Houston’s Box13 Artspace.

Wind, Water

Wind, Water is a video installation inspired by the collisions of urban-industrial landscape and nature along the Buffalo Bayou corridor. With fragmented animations projected on decommissioned concrete silos along the bayou, the piece intertwines imagery of wind and water with human traces, juxtaposing the slow pace of nature with the rapidly evolving urban landscape and illuminating the fragile yet enduring relationship between the city and its surrounding nature.
Isogram Media Studio (Houston artists Ha Na Lee and James Hughes) creates immersive experiences through public art and projection-based works. Using video, sound, kinetic machines, and interactive elements, Lee and Hughes push the boundaries of contemporary art, technological innovation, and audience engagement.

Agüita Santa
Saúl Hernández-Vargas
Agüita Santa es una intervención audiovisual específica, instalada bajo un puente ferroviario en el Buffalo Bayou de Houston. El artista Saúl Hernández-Vargas incorpora la investigación de la periodista y escritora mexicana Daniela Rea y reflexiona sobre el viaje del agua a medida que esta fluye desde el bayou hasta el Golfo de México. En esta obra, el agua es tanto un elemento natural en el centro de muchas luchas contemporáneas como un testigo silencioso de tensiones pasadas y presentes, conectando a personas y territorios.
Saúl Hernández-Vargas es un artista visual y escritor radicado en Houston. Su obra explora la performatividad material, el enmarcado de objetos históricos y la ficción. Ganador del premio Artadia y exalumno del Core Program del Museo de Bellas Artes de Houston, abrió su primera exhibición individual en el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Oaxaca en octubre del año pasado.

Diana-Sofia Estrada
Tejidos y Textiles explora las relaciones entre patrones, camuflaje y movimiento. La artista Diana-Sofia Estrada da vida a animales nocturnos inspirados en sus recuerdos de infancia y en sus sueños, ubicándolos entre patrones gráficos inspirados en los tejidos guatemaltecos que alguna vez llenaron su hogar familiar. En esta instalación, enmarcada por los soportes estructurales del puente de la calle Jensen, criaturas animadas emergen en coloridas proyecciones sobre superficies superpuestas que exploran su hogar, el Buffalo Bayou.
Diana-Sofia Estrada es una artista visual y educadora guatemalteca-estadounidense nacida en Houston. Sus pinturas, animaciones, instalaciones y obras de práctica social cuestionan nuestra cultura visual inmediata. Estrada ha exhibido su trabajo a nivel nacional e internacional y actualmente es artista en residencia en Box13 Artspace en Houston.

Viento, agua

Viento, agua es una instalación de video inspirada en los choques entre el paisaje urbano-industrial y la naturaleza a lo largo del Buffalo Bayou. Con animaciones fragmentadas proyectadas sobre silos de concreto fuera de servicio a lo largo del bayou, la obra entrelaza imágenes de viento y agua con rastros humanos, yuxtaponiendo el ritmo lento de la naturaleza con el paisaje urbano en constante cambio, e iluminando la frágil pero duradera relación entre la ciudad y su entorno natural.
Isogram Media Studio (conformado por los artistas de Houston Ha Na Lee y James Hughes) crea experiencias inmersivas a través del arte público y proyecciones. Utilizando video, sonido, máquinas cinéticas y elementos interactivos, Lee y Hughes amplían las fronteras del arte contemporáneo, la innovación tecnológica y la participación del público.
