The Striking Viking Story Pirates was founded in 2003 by a group of graduates who were saddened by the discrepancy between the arts-rich environments of our childhoods and the situations we saw in many under-resourced New York City public schools. Their solution was to show kids across New York City that their ideas, their words, and their stories were important. Aurora is pleased to welcome the Story Pirates to Houston for one-weekend.

Save-the-date (October 7th) for the Aurora Award 2009 which will honor acclaimed media artist, Doug Aitken.

Location: The Children’s Museum, 1500 Binz
$7 non-members, $4 kids under 12, Aurora Picture Show members free with RSVP

Described as a mix between School House Rock and Monty Python, The Story Pirates know every kid has a story to tell-- whether it's a world where cats can fly or a rock opera about fuzzy alien Tickle Monsters. Founded in 2003 to promote a love of creative writing, the Story Pirates have collected words and ideas from children across the country and brought their stories to life on stage and on film. That's right-- the inspiration for every Story Pirates song, sketch or movie is an original story penned by a kid.  Saturday night they will present videos of kids’ stories that they have produced recently and be available afterwards to discuss their process and interactions with kids.
