Popcorn Kids
Aurora is proud to host a Popcorn Kids series of programs geared toward children that encourage Media Literacy and Education from a young age, as well as stimulate parent/child interaction. Each year, Aurora hosts screenings and workshops geared toward youth that explore using media as a forum for creative exchange or teach skills with media making. Examples of past guests and screenings have included The Striking Viking Story Pirates, A/V Geeks and Pancake Mountain.
In 2009, Aurora launched the first annual Boot Camp.
The Aurora Boot Camp teaches hands-on narrative and experimental techniques using digital video under the supervision of a professional filmmaker. Using the Aurora Video Library, students explore examples of experimental, documentary and short narrative videos for inspiration. Topics include story structures and writing, direction, camera operation, sound and editing. At the end of the class students will receive a DVD of their own short length video. Finished films are screened for family and friends at a culminating Friday night World Premiere showcase.
Aurora offers discounted membership to encourage participation from as early as age 8 (
Popcorn Kids Membership) on to college (
Student Level Membership).
Special thanks to the Kinder Morgan Foundation for their support of Popcorn Kids Programming.
