Andy Mann DVD Release Party

Aurora Picture Show, Microcinema International and The Art Car Museum host a free party on Friday September 10th from 7-9pm to celebrate the release of  Aurora's Andy Mann DVD. Come by for a sneak peek of "Andy Mann: Street Tapes and Cable Access".  The late video pioneer Andy Mann left an extensive collection of his video art to Aurora with the desire to have the work distributed and screened for educational and artistic purposes. The Andy Mann Video Library is comprised of over 800 videotapes, which date from the late 1960s through 2001. "Andy Mann: Street Tapes & Cable Access" includes selections from this collection, including Mann's early Sony Portapak street tapes of Manhattan (1970s), and his cable access tapes made in Houston, Texas (1980s-90s).  READ MORE

Media Archeology Festival: Texas Focus
September 16-18, 2010
Aurora Picture Show presents the seventh annual Media Archeology Festival. Taking place at venues across the city, including the Buffalo Bayou Partnership's East End Silo Site and the Heights Theater, the festival is presented in collaboration with the University of Houston Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts. The mission of this multi-media festival is to showcase artists who use, manipulate, recycle and reinvent electronic media to create live multidisciplinary performances.  Media Archeology 2010 is titled Texas Focus and highlights media artists working in light, video and film from around the state including Austin's Luke Savisky, San Antonio's Potter Belmar Labs (Leslie Raymond and Jason Jay Stevens), and Graffiti Research Labs-Houston (Kirk Moreno and David Sutherland). The Idea Fund Round Three
Applications Now Available
The Idea Fund announces its third round of grants. Bring on the ideas! The Idea Fund provides cash awards of $4,000 to 10 Texas-based, artist-generated or artist-centered projects that exemplify the unconventional, interventionist, conceptual, entrepreneurial, participatory, or guerrilla artistic practices that occur outside the traditional framework of support. Save-the-Date: October 29th is the Aurora Award
Christian Marclay is coming to Houston
Aurora Picture Show's annual Aurora Award Dinners are unparalleled events honoring some of the most significant media artists of the 21st Century and 22nd Century. The Aurora Award is an honor given to an artist who has exhibited extraordinary originality in the fields of media and multimedia art. Past Aurora honorees were Doug Aitken (2009), Steina and Woody Vasulka (2007), Miranda July (2006). Isaac Julien (2005), Ant Farm (2004), Laurie Anderson (2003), William Wegman (2002), and Tony Oursler (2001). This year, Aurora Picture Show will present the tenth annual Aurora Award to acclaimed media and visual artist Christian Marclay. Christian Marclay is a London-based visual artist and composer whose innovative work explores the juxtaposition between sound recording, photography, video and film.
