Co-presented by Aurora Picture Show and The Menil Collection
Location: The Menil Collection Main Lawn - 1533 Sul Ross
Free Admission

Drawing inspiration from artist Meret Oppenheim’s beautiful, multi-layered collage of the same name, Octopus’s Garden (1971), this program features short films that utilize cut-outs, collage, layering, and stop-motion animation. Assembling unlikely elements just as Oppenheim did, these films glimpse into uncanny and surreal worlds visualized through animation. Curated by Mary Magsamen, the program includes films by Barbara Hammer, Lawrence Jordan, Diana Cam Van Nguyen, Jeremy Rourke, Corrie Parks, Carrie Hawks, and others.

This screening is held in conjunction with Meret Oppenheim: My Exhibition, the Swiss artist’s first major transatlantic retrospective, and the first in the U.S. in more than twenty-five years. In case of inclement weather, the screening will take place the following day, Saturday, August 27.
