ALLORA & CALZADILLA: ECOLOGIES
Saturday, April 17 (8PM)
The Menil Collection front lawn – 1533 Sul Ross Street
Co-presented by The Menil Collection and Aurora Picture Show
Curator: Mary Magsamen
Artist Jennifer Allora in attendance

The artist team of Philadelphia-born Jennifer Allora and Havana-born Guillermo Calzadilla work with sculpture, photography, performance art, sound, and video to interrogate all kinds of preconceived notions and associations. Based in Puerto Rico, their work is rooted in their life there as much as it is in their rigorous cultural, historical, political, linguistic, and scientific research. In conjunction with the exhibition Allora & Calzadilla: Specters of Noon, Aurora Picture Show and The Menil Collection co-present this free outdoor screening featuring an hour-long selection of the artists’ short video works made 2004-2017. Artist Jennifer Allora will be in attendance to introduce the program. Feel free to bring your own picnic blankets or lawn chairs and snacks. Guests are required to maintain a social distance of at least 6 feet between each household and wear face masks unless eating or drinking. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be held on Sunday, April 18.

The exhibition Allora & Calzadilla: Specters of Noon, curated by Michelle White, is currently on view at The Menil Collection through June 20. An outdoor concert with Will Cruz and Quattro (4-5pm) and a book launch for the Specters of Noon exhibition catalogue (6-7pm) will precede the screening on April 17. More information about the exhibition and related events here.
