"Étude cinégraphique sur un arabesque" (1929) by Germaine Dulac

EXQUISITE CINEMA OF THE SURREAL

Saturday, May 2 (8:30PM)
Location: Menil Drawing Institute lawn - 1412 W Main St.
Free Admission

Curator: Mary Magsamen
Virginia Lee Montgomery in attendance

In conjunction with the Menil Collection’s exhibition, Photography and the Surreal Imagination, curated by Natalie Dupêcher, Aurora and the Menil co-present an outdoor screening of films inspired by Surrealism. Taking a cue from the Surrealist “exquisite corpse” game of chance combinations, Aurora's Mary Magsamen has curated an eclectic selection of historic and contemporary short films exploring unusual and playful use of everyday objects, animation, abstraction, and camera trickery in both film and video works. The program includes work by Germaine Dulac, Marcel Duchamp, Lawrence Jordan, Joan Logue, Steina and Woody Vasulka, Allison Schulnik, Virginia Lee Montgomery, and Ilaria Di Carlo.

NOTE:

Aurora takes the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and related issues/concerns extremely seriously. We are following the recommendations of the CDC and City of Houston, as well as the considering the best experiences for our creative community as situations evolve. We hope to continue this program as planned, as it takes place outdoors and with enough space for social distancing. But please check this website and/or social media platforms for updates.
